- What is Procedure Text?
Procedure Text is a kind of text that shows a series of orders of making something, doing something or getting somewhere.
- Definition of Procedure Text
There are three definitions of procedure text :
(1) Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction or operation manuals, e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax, etc.
(2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity, e.g. recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules, etc.
(3) Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g. how to live happily, how to succeed, etc.
- Generic Structure of Procedure Text
(1) Goal or aim (example : How to make).
(2) Materials or Ingredients (example : the material to cook omelet are egg, onion, vegetable oil, etc).
(3) Steps or methods or instructions (example : first, wash the tomatoes, the second cut the onions becomes slice, etc).
- Purpose of Procedure Text
(1) To explain or tell (the reader) how to make or operate or do something through a sequence of actions or steps.
(2) To explain steps or instructions to make or operate or do something.
- Language Feature of Procedure Text
(1) Use adverbial of sequence or using temporal conjunction, e.g. first, second, third, the last, etc.
(2) Use command or imperative sentence, e.g. put the noodles on the, cut the onion, wash the tomatoes, etc.
(3) Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurately, e.g. for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
(4) Using action verbs, e.g. make, take, boil, cook, etc.
(5) Using Simple Present Tense.
