PROCEDURE TEXT

• What is Procedure Text?

Procedure Text is a kind of text that shows a series of orders of making something, doing something or getting somewhere.

 

• Definition of Procedure Text

There are three definitions of procedure text :

(1) Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction or operation manuals.

(2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity.

(3) Texts that deal with human behavior.

• Generic Structure of Procedure Text

(1) Goal or aim.

(2) Materials or Ingredients.

(3) Steps or methods or instructions.

• Purpose of Procedure Text

(1) To explain or tell (the reader) how to make or operate or do something through a sequence of actions or steps.

(2) To explain steps or instructions to make or operate or do something.

• Language Feature of Procedure Text

(1) Use adverbial of sequence or using temporal conjunction.

(2) Use command or imperative sentence.

(3) Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurately.

(4) Using action verbs.

(5) Using Simple Present Tense.

• How To Do

Inform or instruct the readers to do something. 'Do' when someone performs an action, activity, or task. 'Do' is often used when referring to work of any kind. These activities do not usually produce a physical object.

The purpose is to tell the reader how to do something. The information is presented in logical sequence of events that are broken into steps. Example : steps of activities, tips or tricks, treatments, etc.

• How To Use

Inform or instruct the readers to use something. 'Use' for taking, holding, or deploying. 'Use' is often used when referring to put into action, service, or consume. These activities usually such as a tool to a particular purpose. The purpose is to tell the reader how to use something.

• How To Make

Inform or instruct the readers to make something. 'Make' for constructing, building, or creating. 'Make' is often used when referring to preparing food of any kind. These activities usually create something that you can touch. The purpose is to tell the reader how to make something.
